چکیده

Abstract. The forward osmosis (FO) process has been considered for desalination as a competitive option with respect to the traditional reverse process. interfacial polymerization (IP) reaction between two monomers (i.e., m-phenylenediamine, MPD, and 1,3,5-benzenetricarbonyl chloride, TMC) is typically used prepare selective polyamide layer that prevents salts allows water molecules pass. In this research, we investigated effect of preparation conditions (MPD contact time, TMC addition an amine salt) on FO performance in terms flux salt flux. results showed increasing MPD time resulted significant increase However, caused decline both optimum condition gave highest (64 L m?2 h?1) was found be 5 min 1 TMC. camphorsulfonic acid-triethylamine (CSA-TEA) able have apparent by (74.5 h?1).

Preparation and Characterization of Thin-Film Composite Membrane with Nanowire-Modified Support for Forward Osmosis Process

Internal concentration polarization (ICP) in forward osmosis (FO) process is a characteristic problem for asymmetric thin-film composite (TFC) FO membrane which leads to lower water flux. To mitigate the ICP effect, modification of the substrates' properties has been one of the most effective methods. A new polyethersulfone-based ultrafiltration membrane with increased surface porosity and high...

High performance thin-film composite forward osmosis membrane.

Recent studies show that osmotically driven membrane processes may be a viable technology for desalination, water and wastewater treatment, and power generation. However, the absence of a membrane designed for such processes is a significant obstacle hindering further advancements of this technology. This work presents the development of a high performance thin-film composite membrane for forwa...

Preparation of Novel Thin-Film Composite Nanofiltration Membranes for Separation of Amoxicillin

Several novel composite membranes were prepared to separate and recycle amoxicillin from pharmaceutical wastewater via nanofiltration process. The synthesis of these membranes included three stages: 1- preparation of polysulfone ultrafiltration membranes as a support via phase separation process, 2- modification of its surface by interfacial polymerization as a selective layer (polyamide), and ...

Performance and Structure of Thin Film Composite Reverse Osmosis Membranes Prepared by Interfacial Polymerization in the Presence of Acid Acceptor

During interfacial polymerization (IP) reaction between m-phenylenediamine (MPDA) and trimesoyl chloride (TMC), a by-product, i.e. hydrochloric acid can produce. This produced acid diffuses back in aqueous phase and protonates MPDA and reduces its reactivity that results in lowering of polymer yield and performance of membrane. Further, for getting consistency in reverse...

A Novel Approach Toward Fabrication of High Performance Thin Film Composite Polyamide Membranes.

A practical method is reported to enhance water permeability of thin film composite (TFC) polyamide (PA) membranes by decreasing the thickness of the selective PA layer. The composite membranes were prepared by interfacial polymerization (IP) reaction between meta-phenylene diamine (MPD)-aqueous and trimesoyl chloride (TMC)-organic solvents at the surface of polyethersulfone (PES) microporous s...
